Sound Liaison Signature Series Vol. 1 - One-Mic Recordings

Sound Liaison's One-Mic Recordings are created with a single Josephson C700S stereo microphone, capturing music with exceptional purity, realism and natural depth. Because the entire performance is recorded with just one microphone, the complete soundstage is created in the room itself. Every musician is positioned with precision, slightly left or right, closer or farther from the microphone, producing a remarkably stable stereo image with an almost holographic sense of space.

Free from the phase inconsistencies that often accompany multi-microphone recordings, these performances reveal exceptional imaging, depth and coherence. Combined with the remarkable acoustics of the legendary MCO Studio 2, the result is a listening experience that brings you uncannily close to the musicians.

Tr1.  Lotus Blossom - David Lukács & Alexander Brott

There is something truly special about the combination of clarinet and guitar. David and Alexander have played together for years, and you can hear that familiarity in the way they listen and respond to one another. All we had to do was find the right place for the microphone, then step back and let the music be.

"David Lukács and Alexander Brott don't merely use these compositions as vehicles for soloing; they move beyond that, entering a shared musical space where ideas emerge freely, like a conversation among equals." - Peter Bjørnild

Tr2. Two For The Road - Thomas Baggerman Trio

Sometimes the best recordings are the ones you could never have planned.
When vocalist Eva Scholten fell ill, Thomas and Max Baggerman and bassist Jort Terwijn suddenly found themselves facing a full audience as a trio. There was no second chance — just three musicians, one microphone, and the energy of the room. What happened next is exactly what we love about recording jazz: musicians listening, reacting, and taking risks. Our job was just to capture that moment.

"It was a make-or-break moment, and everything was on the line. 'Two for the Road' became a beautiful, intimate interlude on the album." Thomas Baggerman

Some music makes it impossible to sit still.
After spending time in New Orleans and playing with local musicians, Ellister van der Molen and Bob Wijnen brought that inspiration back home. Together with Gideon Tazelaar and Wouter Kühne, they created music full of groove, joy, and spontaneity.
The energy between the musicians is what makes this recording special — you can almost feel them pushing each other forward, exactly the kind of musical interaction we always hope to capture.

"RED fully feels and embodies the vibe and spirit of New Orleans. The entire album is filled with great playing. Loving NOLA from start to finish." - Terence Blanchard

Tr4. Re: Stacks - Tim Langedijk & Paul Berner

What strikes us most about Tim Langedijk and Paul Berner is how little they need to tell a story. With just acoustic guitar and double bass, they give the music room to breathe. There is no urge to impress, every note seems to be there for a reason.
For us, the album From Now On is about musical maturity: two musicians listening closely to each other, trusting that sometimes less really is more.

"Once musicians have refined their voices, the final challenge is to let go, to serve only the music. From Now On is a beautiful surrender to that ideal." - Peter Bjørnild

Tr5. Stolen Moments - Iman Spaargaren & Peter Bjørnild
Iman Spaargaren & Peter Bjørnild - In Essence - The best High-Res audio downloads from €17.95! Shop now at Sound Liaison

The duo chose to keep each track short, distilled to its melodic and emotional core, as if the goal wasn't to impress with complexity, but to offer a clear, focused experience of each tune. Each one is a small, self-contained meditation, a kind of musical haiku: concise, almost fragile in its clarity, capturing the essence of melody and melodic improvisation. The result is music that doesn't explain itself; it just is.
There's a quiet confidence here, two musicians who don't need many notes to say something meaningful. It invites you to come closer and really listen.

"A truly beautiful aural snapshot of a wonderful musical performance. A real 'you're there' moment." - The Absolute Sound

Tr6. Take 5 - Feenbrothers

On this recording, the audience is rather more present than on our other live recordings from Studio 2. We generally prefer no more than 80 people in the studio, that number leaves us room to move around, change a cable or microphone if needed, and reposition the musicians as necessary.
But as fate would have it, the computer system tracking ticket sales for the concert broke down, and 110 tickets were sold instead of 80. Extra seats were brought in, so the audience ended up very close to the band, creating a wonderfully lively atmosphere.

"Superb staging depth and overall a sense of being there." - Head-Fi

Tr7. Heard it All Before - Carmen Gomes Inc.

Carmen Gomes: "The recording itself was made live around the Josephson 700S mic. I love this completely honest way of recording, though it is very challenging, no eating beforehand, or the microphone will pick up the rumble of my stomach! If I shift my body an inch, the sound changes. Recording live with an audience adds another layer: I had to stay conscious of my position relative to the mic and avoid unnecessary noise, while still flying free, creating, and engaging with the audience. It was an endeavor, intimate, demanding, but ultimately, as I believe this recording shows, deeply rewarding."

"When she sings, she wraps a warm embrace around her band and her audience in some of the most intimate sharing of music I know." - Rushton Paul

Tr8. 'Tis Autumn - Simon Rigter
Simon Rigter - Growing Up - The best High-Res audio downloads from €17.95! Shop now at Sound Liaison

Simon Rigter: "I prefer playing in small clubs, where I can seek freedom and take risks, where music can be spontaneous and intimate at the same time. Jazz is 'up close & personal' music, and in that respect, Studio 2 is ideal for recording. The hall's warm, intimate sound, along with its historic vibe, practically compels spontaneous creation."

"Rigter's album is thoughtfully crafted and varied, a definitive example of the saxophone's gold standard in jazz. It is truly a small masterpiece!" - Jazzenzo

Tr9. Complainte De La Butte - Reinier Voet & Pigalle44

The advantages of the One Microphone approach to recording are obvious: phase coherence, perfect imaging, a great sense of depth, superior realism.
Another advantage is that it forces the band being recorded to really play. There is nowhere to hide, no fixing it in the mix, which is exactly where it helps to be a real band. Reinier Voet and Pigalle44 are just that: a real band, road-tested, with years of experience playing clubs and concert halls across Europe. And it shows.

"This recording sounds sensational... Pace, rhythm, tone, and soundstage are off the charts!" - Audiophile Style

Tr10. The Sweetest Sound - Michael Moore & Paul Berner

It's magical listening to Michael Moore and Paul Berner play. The music flows in a natural, unhindered stream, each note an obvious continuation of what came before. It was a thrill to record this session, capturing two masters feeding off each other, passing the ball at just the right moment, shaping the songs, polishing, simplifying, or embellishing where needed, while staying alive to the freshness and immediacy of creating in the moment.

" A beautifully uncomplicated recording."
